What to Expect From a Manicure Appointment in Windham, NH

October 14, 2026

A manicure at JC Nails & Spa in Windham, NH takes about 30 minutes for regular polish and 45 minutes for gel. If it's your first visit, or your first manicure anywhere, here's exactly what happens so there are no surprises.

Before you arrive

Come with clean, bare nails if you can. If you're wearing gel, dip or acrylic from another salon, say so when you book — removal is a separate step that adds 10–20 minutes, and we'll plan for it. Have an idea of the color or look you want; a photo on your phone is the easiest way to show us. Not sure? Tell us what you're going for — clean and natural, a bit of color, a French tip — and we'll suggest something.

Step by step

Shaping. Your technician trims and files your nails to the length and shape you want — square, round, almond or coffin. Say so if you want to keep the length you have.

Soak and cuticles. Hands go into warm water for a few minutes to soften the skin. Cuticles are gently pushed back and tidied, never cut aggressively.

Buffing and prep. The nail surface is buffed smooth and cleaned so polish or gel bonds and lasts. This is the step a salon manicure does better than a home one.

Color. Regular polish gets a base coat, two coats of color and a top coat, then dries under a fan for 10–15 minutes. Gel cures under an LED lamp after each coat, so you leave completely dry with a finish that lasts two to three weeks. A simple design on an accent nail or two can be added to either.

Finish. Cuticle oil and a quick hand massage with lotion.

Regular polish or gel?

Regular polish is best if you change colors often or want the quickest visit. Gel is the choice if you want chip-free nails for two weeks or more — just come back for removal instead of peeling it off, which damages the nail. French is available in both. If you want something longer-lasting still, ask about dip powder, acrylic or gel extensions. Current prices are on our services page.

Bringing kids?

We do manicures for children under 10 — a quick, gentle version with plenty of color choices. Book them alongside your own appointment and we'll seat you together.

Making it last

Wear gloves for dishes and cleaning, use cuticle oil daily, and don't use your nails as tools. For gel, book your next appointment two to three weeks out and let us remove it properly.
